SOmatic coaching

Embodiment Education, Awareness and Skills Practice

What Is somatic Coaching?

“Somatics” is the practice and study of how the body experiences and relates to itself from within. To do something “somatically” is to recognize the body as storyteller and view the body-mind connection as interconnected. Coaching is the type of embodiment support I offer that is goal focused with an emphasis on education, resources and practices to facilitate growth. Somatic Coaching helps clients build internal perception, learn the language of the nervous system, and reconnect to life-force energy.

Somatic coaching Supports:

Moving from Intellectualizing to Feeling in the Body
Burn Out Recovery
Building Embodied Boundaries
Learning the Language of the Nervous System
Finding Deeper Alignment with Values and Choices
Building Interoception, Distress Tolerance, and Emotion Regulation Skills

Coaching framework

Somatic Experiencing® is the framework I use in Somatic Coaching. SE works with a person’s innate resilience and gently helps develop an increased ability to tolerate difficult emotions and sensations. Using this method helps clients understand their nervous system, gain valuable skills for self regulation, and find deeper connection and relationship with one’s body. SE is a gentle way to gain flexibility in the body’s threat-response and supports possibilities for new patterns of behavior and perspective.

coaching disclaimer

Somatic coaching and therapy are not the same. Coaching does not assess, diagnose, or treat mental health disorders and does not operate within a medical model. Although I hold a counseling license, within the coaching relationship I am not offering clinical mental health counseling, psychotherapy, or any other form of health care.

Types of Somatic COaching SEssions:

  • This is a drop in, stand alone coaching session that focuses specifically on nervous system education, interoception (internal perception) skills and identifying specific nervous system response patterns.

This type of session is good for someone who is:

    • New to somatics and wants to learn how it works and leave with a few new skills to practice in their life

    • Experiencing burnout and is looking to reorient to find out what’s next

    • Already doing therapeutic or bodywork elsewhere but wants to explore their work in a space with a somatic lens

This session is NOT an ongoing therapeutic relationship, so it is not a place to process through trauma or crisis using Somatic Experiencing. Instead, we will stay focused on mapping out your specific nervous system patterns in order to help you listen more deeply to your body’s signals and begin learning how to respond to them.

Sessions are online or in person based on scheduling and availability and can be booked at 60 minutes or 80 minutes.

  • Somatic integration sessions offer an ongoing space to work with specific goals for increasing mind-body-soul connection and nervous system resilience. These sessions are for someone who:

    • is already familiar with somatic/nervous system work

    • has a talk therapist and is looking for adjunctive somatic care

    • is looking to track themes and patterns through a somatic framework

    • has established skills of somatic awareness and embodiment practices

    • is not in crisis and has a robust support system
